Putting off DIY tasks? Let us offer a helping hand this Christmas

03/12/2015

December has arrived; the month where a thousand and one things need to be done. Food and presents need to be brought, Christmas day plans have to be made and you have to get your house ready for any impending guests.

It can be an awful rush, and if your home is nowhere near ready for guest arrivals, you may feel like you’re facing an uphill struggle, especially as it has been revealed in a survey that Brits aren’t fond of carrying out DIY tasks around the home for a multitude of reasons.

In a 2,000 strong survey by manufacturer Sugru, it was revealed that wallpapering was the DIY task that was deemed the most troublesome (38%), and one which most homeowners look to swerve.

A lack of confidence is often the most common reason for not wanting to complete the task, and could be why a third of those surveyed claimed that they were unable to put up shelves correctly, and a further third said that they didn’t know how to rewire a plug.

But don’t fear DIY haters, because at JH Building & Maintenance, our job is to make your life easier and complete the jobs around your home that you struggle to do.

Britain is also a nation of procrastinators, which is another reason why we’re often more fond of getting in the professionals. The survey revealed that on average, it takes a DIY-er 19 days to get around to doing any practical home improvement tasks around the home which they said they would complete

But, with just a couple of weeks till Christmas, it doesn’t leave you much time to get the job done if you’re going to spend that much time procrastinating, so why not cut out the middle man and install the services of a professional who will most likely be able to get the job done before Santa’s big arrival?

After all, no-one wants to hear a judgemental mother-in-law or a moaning grandmother when they come to visit and critique the lack of home improvement work.

Not only is a lack of confidence and procrastination a barrier for completing these tasks, but it’s also likely that those who need work done aren’t going to have much time to complete it.

Half of those surveyed were in agreement, and this lack of time is especially pronounced at this time of year, with all of the present buying and family get-togethers.

It has also been revealed that in the majority of cases (63%), those who are stuck with DIY issues don’t choose to get in the professionals, and instead turn to Google in times of trouble. However, this is likely to cause you more harm than good, as Google will be unable to help you rectify your home if things go awry.

It is instead much better to contact a team of professional property specialists. If you try to do home improvement work yourself, you’re more likely to create more damage and incur a high cost to rectify it, or worse still, injure yourself before the festivities have even begun.
